Dehumanizaiton

Bristow was dehumanized throughout his entire life. Whether he was free or enslaved, he was treated like an object instead of a human. After being captured from his home in Africa, he was treated as if he could be sold, payed off, and forced to work for nothing. According to Bristow's manumission papers written in 1775, Thomas Hooker states, "I Do Grant to him said Bristow his full Liberty and Freedom from me and my Service that he may go & come when & wherever he pleases without any Hindrance or molestation from me or any one claiming from by or under me." Not only did people in the 13 colonies take innocent people from their home, they also didn't allow them to go where they wanted to without punishments unless they were freed. Thankfully, people are now beginning to be educated about our country's history so we will never make the same mistakes again.
